Liquid Menorah
2003

Chanukah is a festival of lights at the darkest time of the year. After the temple was besieged and its soil stolen, the traditional seven branched menorah had only enough fuel to burn for one day, but miraculously, it remained aglow for eight. Thus the Chanukah menorah is nine branched - eight, born of one. In this variation on tradition, Yona Belfort uses bowls of sacramental wine to focus ambient light into nine radiant points. - Matt Kahn
