Studio & Sculpture Lab Manager – Department of Art & Art History

The Art Practice program in the Department of Art
& Art History serves approximately 10 graduate
students in an MFA program and approximately 40
undergraduate majors and minors. The Studio &
Sculpture Lab Manager is an important part of the
facilities and health and safety team and works
closely with faculty, particularly in sculpture,
and with other staff and students to ensure
smooth and safe operation of the sculpture lab,
including a wood and metal shop, and seven studio spaces.

Responsibilities:

Sculpture Lab Management – 75%

Works closely with the sculpture faculty and
facilities staff to manage the shop, including
researching and implementing the purchase of new
equipment and tools, maintaining existing
equipment and tools including repairs,
replacements and routine maintenance, conducting
safety trainings and orientations, managing hand
tool checkout system, maintaining safety
equipment inventory, holding open shop hours and
providing independent study students with
instruction in welding and woodworking and
assistance with individual projects. Works with
department administrative staff to create and manage shop budget.

General Studio Management – 25%

Works with various faculty and facilities staff
to manage studios for design, drawing, painting
and printmaking, including maintaining
consumables inventory, overseeing hazardous waste
pickup and chemical inventory, addressing
building maintenance issues, maintaining
classroom furniture and easel inventory,
monitoring and addressing health and safety
conditions and compliance, conducting quarterly
studio clean-up and managing all studio class lab
fees in cooperation with faculty and/or teaching
assistants and administrative staff.

Qualifications:

BA or BFA in relevant field required, in addition
to at least 2 – 3 years’ relevant experience
Prior experience in an educational and / or arts
environment strongly preferred
Extensive experience with wood and metalworking equipment and tools
Prior experience with health and safety compliance regulations
Service-oriented approach
Excellent organizational skills
