Mechanical Engineering Internship Position Available
This position is located at Google, Inc. in Mountain View, CA
The area: Google Platforms. Google's global deployment of
custom-designed machines has created one of the largest and most
powerful computing infrastructures in existence. The Platforms team
designs and builds the software, hardware, computing platform and
networking technologies that power all of Google's services.
The role: ME Intern, Platforms ME-Design Group. You must be a top
notch mechanical engineering student with the spirit and desire to
design future mechanical packaging for computer and networking
products. With guidance from senior engineers, you will make
decisions affecting systems all the way up to datacenter deployment.
You need to have both the technical knowledge and creativity to help
productize our next generation equipment with innovative solutions.
The successful candidate must be a currently enrolled Mechanical
Engineering student, between 4th-year BS and 1st-year MS
preferred. A strong mechanical inclination is a must.
Responsibilities:
-Scope projects around innovation opportunities as well as technology risks.
-Develop robust solutions for tasks such as blind mating of high
density interconnects, inject/eject mechanisms.
-Work in a group to productize mechanical aspects of highly networked
computer systems - including requirements gathering, concepts
generation & detailed design, analysis & verification testing, cross
functional reviews and manufacturing release.
-Be a technical resource in multiple areas of product design such as
thermal, structural, manufacturability, serviceability and reliability.
Requirements:
-Education: Between 4th-year BSME and 1st year MSME preferred.
-Aptitude to design mechanical systems such as structures and
mechanisms, and to validate designs through analysis and testing.
-Understanding of statistics as applied to mechanical tolerance analysis
-Experience with at least one 3D CAD system, plus working knowledge
of at least one of the following: Flotherm, Mechanica, Ansys.
-Enthusiasm for the core ME skills as applied to small and large
scale electronic systems: structural design and analysis, mechanisms,
and heat transfer.
-Analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a well-focused
attention to details.
