Senior Product Design Engineer

The IEB Design team is a multidisciplinary team whose charter is to
design world-class end-to-end experiences that are desirable,
thoughtful, consistent, and easy-to-use across Microsoft's
entertainment and mobile businesses. Our goal is to ensure full
integration of brand, industrial design, user interface, graphic
design, usability, and business strategy.

Overview
Great design doesn't happen by accident. It takes a dedicated,
highly skilled team deeply involved from initial sketch to production
to make great design a reality. As a member of the IEB Design
Development team, you will be on point to bring ground-breaking,
award winning hardware designs to life for the Microsoft Interactive
Entertainment and Mobile Communication businesses.

Primary Responsibilities
Your ability to develop and deliver rich experience-led design
solutions to the market through detailed design process, 3D form
development, integration and refinement with engineering, and
successful project management into production is critical. This
position will require a hands-on collaborative person who will build
strong strategic partnerships with Industrial Design, Mechanical and
Electrical Engineering, Product Planning, User Experience Design, and
Research, to deliver innovative end to end solutions. Additional
requirements include deep knowledge and practical experience in
hardware design, form development, manufacturing processes and
galvanizing presentation and communication abilities.


Requirements
* Solid knowledge of industrial design, 3D surface development,
mechanical engineering, and product development
* Expert with 3D tools, Pro/E advanced surfacing capabilities and
high production molding techniques
* Deep knowledge in materials and manufacturing processes common to
the consumer electronics industry
* Experience in designing consumer electronics devices and
implementing innovative materials and manufacturing is a key
consideration. Proven ability to innovate within and extend current
technology through design.
* Consumer centric design process background with proven ability to
deliver design for product families that align with brand vision.
* A strong portfolio demonstrating breadth and creativity in
successful product design, versatility with design and rapid
prototyping tools and methods, and a strong understanding of design
and creative process is required.
* Strong verbal and visual communication skills, ability to
communicate to senior leadership.
* Ability to build team alignment around complex, innovative design solutions.
* Additional experience in a secondary field such as EE or SW is
highly desired, as is the ability to mock up functional prototypes
that span ME, EE and UX
* A bachelor's degree in industrial design, product design,
mechanical engineering or related discipline is required.
* A minimum of 7 years work experience designing within a
collaborative environment required.
