Faculty Position in Engineering Design and Design Education
The Departments of Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Engineering Education
(EngE) at Virginia Tech are in the midst of an exciting period of
aggressive growth begun in 2003. In this search we seek to fill a
joint-appointment tenure track faculty position in the area of Engineering
Design and Design Education.
We seek individuals who aspire to be leaders in both research and teaching
innovations that advance and integrate engineering design and design
education research. Expectations include excellent teaching and developing
an externally-funded program of basic/applied research and scholarship in
student learning of design and also in the practice of design and design
education. Focus areas include, but are not limited to: design theory and
methodology, design for manufacturing; distributed design systems;
automated synthesis techniques; teaching and design, collaboration and
teamwork; and multidisciplinary design.
Applicants with strong interdisciplinary interests and interest/capability
in educational research are encouraged. Successful applicants must have an
earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related
field with a strong emphasis in engineering design, and will be expected to
develop a strong research program and contribute to the educational mission
of the departments at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
