Job Description for an Expert in Human Factors Research
The Stanford Cardiac Rehabilitation Program,
SCRP, a research unit within the Department of
Medicine at Stanford University, seeks a research
associate experienced in human factors research
for a 2-year project for which support is being
sought through a grant from the Patient-Centered
Outcomes Research Institute. The proposal is due
7/1/12. Funding would commence 1/1/13.
The project will evaluate the clinical
feasibility of the tools and methods incorporated
into a comprehensive Care Management System, CMS,
developed and tested by the SCRP
investigators. CMS enrolls patients following
hospitalization for heart
attack. Patient-initiated telephone contacts
with the CMS staff permit coordination of
the subsequent management of patients reporting cardiovascular symptoms.
In the 01 year, this individual will carry out
needs assessments in patients focused on
addressing patients’ stated needs and
preferences for care, including patients’
stated interest in using an online patient portal
for contacts with CMS staff that are not time-critical.
In the 02 year, this individual will carry out
summative evaluations in patients hospitalized
with a suspected heart attack, and the healthcare
professionals who attend them regarding their
experience with CMS during a one-year observational study.
This individual will work with other program
staff to refine project deliverables in the 02
year based on experience gained in the
study. The focus of the research is to create
deliverable tools and methods to facilitate the
cost-effective management of patients with
established coronary artery disease. Support for
this individual is scheduled at approximately 25% full-time effort (FTE).
Individuals with a background in human factors
research who are interested in participating in
this project should contact Robert F. DeBusk,
M.D. at 650.380.3792 or debusk_at_stanford.edu. for further information.
