Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose (CDM) seeks a creative and
versatile Senior Exhibit Designer for a full-time, exempt position,
with excellent benefits. The Senior Exhibit Designer is responsible
for the design of the spaces and interactive exhibits that are
essential for the Museum to serve its community as a center for
learning and discovery. As a leader in the field of informal family
learning, CDM's exhibits are highly interactive, multidisciplinary,
and appeal to children, their families and care providers. The
exhibit development process requires strong skills in conceptual
design, research, writing, content development, prototyping,
fabrication and project management, including financial oversight.
The ability to work independently, under general guidelines, and in a
group setting is essential. The ideal candidate will have a
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of exhibit
design/development experience at a museum or comparable interactive
institution, and will possess varied interests, spanning science,
technology, arts and the humanities. Direct experience with wood,
plastic and metal construction and electronic and mechanical design
is required. Strong illustration skills and a high level of
competency with computer graphics/CAD programs, such as Vectorworks,
AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, and FormZ, are desired.
