GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:



Walt Disney Imagineering designs and builds
Disney’s theme parks and resorts and creates
immersive experiences that delight our guests.
You will work on cutting edge entertainment
technology, primarily in mechanical and
structural design to push the boundaries of what
is possible. From floating mountains and castles
to lifelike robots and special effects, we use an
incredibly wide array of structures in all kinds
of demanding applications, so be ready to learn
quickly and be challenged. We value creativity
and out-of-the-box thinking, so bring your ideas
with you. We also like to have fun, so bring your sense of humor!



CORE FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:



· R&D and design of mechanical structures

· CAD modeling

· Prototyping

· Consulting on technical and scientific problems



DESIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:



The ideal candidate would have a broad knowledge
of mechanical design, including all or some of the following:

· Problem Solving: Can you use your
taught skills and apply them to new and nuanced problems?

· Software Packages / Manufacturing: Can
you use CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino,
or CATIA? Are you able to analyze your designs
in FEA programs such as ANSYS? Do you design
with manufacturing processes and assembly in mind?

· Rapid Prototyping / Fabrication and
Hand Sketching: Can you use materials you find
around the office or the shop to convey your
ideas effectively? Can you draw to get your point across?

· Material Testing: Can you take a
material, test it, and figure out important information such as lifespan?

· Numerical: Can you do off-the-cuff
calculations that would give you an idea of where a design might fail?

· Mechanisms, Fasteners, Linkages, and
More: Can you integrate systems to achieve a
desired goal with an awesome user interface?

· Teamwork / Communication: Can you work
with a wide range of people on very different
projects? Are you able to discuss your machines or designs in layman’s terms?

· Creativity: Do your designs offer
exciting and innovative solutions? (This is Disney, after all.)



DESIRED QUALIFICATION:



· Currently pursuing an B.S., M.S. or
Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering,
Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering,
Aerospace Engineering or other relevant field of study

· Ability to rapidly acquire expertise in
disparate technical disciplines

· Relevant industry or research experience (internships count)

· Experience with and commitment to serving internal customers

· Sense of humor
