Fabrication Facility (IDFF) will enable high-end
scientific instrument design and fabrication for
the diverse research applications of the University's 79 laboratories.

Through interactive engagement with Rockefeller
scientists, the IDFF will provide end-to-end
service from conceptualization to application of
scientific instrumentation. The IDFF will be
staffed by a team with complementary expertise in
optical design, mechanical design, and
fabrication, electronics design, and precision
fabrication. The candidate will interface
effectively with engineers at the IDFF and/or
engage directly with research laboratories.

As a Scientific Machinist in the IDFF, you will:

· engage with laboratories to refine
available designs for instruments for fabrication
· effectively partner with engineers at
the IDFF to support fabrication and prototyping
of relevant components within systems solutions developed by the IDFF
· implement modifications to existing
components and iteratively refining mechanical parts

· assemble and test multicomponent
designs before their transition to the research Laboratories

You need:

· a minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on
experience with a modern computer controlled CNC
mill (3 axis or more) ideally within a high-end
engineering or scientific environment
· hands-on knowledge and working
experience with CNC control software such as Heidenhain or Siemens
· excellent organizational skills,
outstanding interpersonal and communication
skills, and the ability to create and maintain
excellent working relationships in a team environment
· hands-on experience with manual
mechanical workshop machinery including lathes,
milling machines, and 3D printers
· excellent knowledge of and experience
in using 3D mechanical designs developed in
software such as SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor as the basis for fabrication

You are:

· hands-on, self-directed, and bring
enthusiasm and a keen interest in scientific
research, engineering, and instrument fabrication
· excited to work as an integral member
of a relatively small and close-knit team and
willing to take on a broad range of tasks, as needed.

· results-oriented and willing to do
whatever is necessary to get the job done

You ideally have:

· working knowledge of and experience
with optical design software such as ZEMEX, OLSO, or related software
· knowledge of and experience with design
and fabrication of basic electronics circuits for hardware control
· knowledge of and experience with
hardware control software such as Lab View and FieldProgrammable
· Gate Arrays (FGPA)
· experience with microfabrication tools and techniques
· knowledge of common scientific
programming languages such as Matlab, Mathematica, and Python
