Manager, Avenidas Generations Lab

Based in Palo Alto, CA, Avenidas is a private
501©3 non-profit organization that seeks to
create a community that supports and celebrates
older adults. Since 1969, Avenidas has provided a
wide range of support options, information, and
services that enable people to stay active,
maintain their independence, help their aging
parents, or care for a spouse or partner.
In January 2016, Avenidas launched a new
Generations Lab that aims to pioneer a new
approach to reducing the digital technology
divide between younger and older people. The Lab
will go beyond the computer training that
Avenidas has been providing for more than 20
years. It will introduce seniors to the wide
range of new digital technologies – smart phones,
tablets, wearables, e-readers, even 3D printers
and robots – that can help them live richer, more
independent lives. The Lab will also be a place
where developers of new products for older adults
can meet and get feedback from potential users.
If successful, the Lab could serve as a prototype
for similar programs at other senior centers across the country.
Avenidas is now hiring a full-time manager to
bring the Lab to life by leading the planning,
development, and delivery of these activities. Duties will include:

    * Planning, scheduling and delivering a range
of activities that introduce older adults to a variety of new technologies.
    * Recruiting and managing contractors and
volunteers, and collaborating with other Avenidas staff.
    * Establishing ongoing relationships with
partner organizations that can contribute to Lab activities.
    * Acquiring and maintaining technology needed to support Lab programs.
    * Building a “registry” of older adults and
family caregivers who are interested in
participating in market research and pilot
projects for new products or services.
    * Generating revenue for the Lab by
recruiting sponsors and organizations interested
in conducting market research with Lab participants.
    * Assisting Avenidas’ VP of Development in
securing grants for the Lab; this new Avenidas
program must break-even within three years.
    * Working with other staff members to ensure
that technology is integrated into other Avenidas programs as appropriate.
    * Documenting the impact of Lab programs through surveys or other means.
Qualifications:
    * Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred
    * Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
    * Courteous and resourceful with a strong customer service orientation
    * Comfortable working with older people and
sensitive to the special challenge of introducing
new technologies to people who may initially be
skeptical or nervous about using unfamiliar technologies
    * Proficiency with (and passionate about!) a
variety of digital technologies
    * Demonstrated ability to organize and lead
innovative educational and training programs
    * Articulate; able to serve as a spokesperson
for the Lab in multiple settings

This is a full time, Monday through Friday on
site position located in Palo Alto, CA.
Competitive non-profit pay structure, plus full
benefits included. Interested parties should
