Notes:
A snapshot of where the Design Division gets its operating (non faculty) funding.
- The Dept. operating allocation is intended to cover secretaries, teaching staff, student teaching assistants, equipment, supplies, maintenance, etc. These funds are considerably less than the Division needs to conduct high-quality project-based courses.
- The difference is provided largely by project fees from industrial partners and by the Stanford Integrated Manufacturing Association (SIMA), a consortium of major companies that fund manufacturing-related research and education in the Schools of Engineering and Business.
- Endowment income and gifts help to pay for lecturers and teaching assistants in the Product Design Program.
- Research funds are primarily from government agencies and some industrial projects.
