The Rapid Prototyping Lab, headed by Prof. Fritz Prinz, is shared by the M.E. and Materials Science Depts.
• Projects in the lab involve close collaboration with the Center for Design Research (ME) and the Center for Integrated Systems (EE).
• The lab focuses on a novel set of three-dimensional layered manufacturing processes in which material is alternately deposited and shaped.
• Materials include metals, polymers and ceramics.
• Ongoing work aims to produce parts with smaller (to sub-millimeter) size scales, better materials properties and greater complexity (e.g., with embedded sensors).
• RPL collaborates with CDR to improve the design/manufacturing interface.
