2011 Research Intern – Mechanical Engineering
Intuitive Surgical’s Applied Research group is
offering an internship in the area of mechanical
engineering. We are seeking a talented
individual to participate in an exciting
cross-disciplinary project in tele-robotic surgery.
Project activities will include:
* Design components and assemblies for surgical
systems, with careful consideration of:
* kinematic structure,
* sterile interfaces,
* actuation and sensing modalities,
* motion control requirements,
* patient support.
* Complete several iterations of full-scale rapid
prototypes of candidate mechanism designs and
architectures in order to satisfy both clinical and technical requirements.
Requirements:
* BSME required, MSME preferred.
* Proficiency using CAD to design/document mechanisms; SolidWorks preferred.
* Strong hands-on engineering experience with
proven ability to work well in a team environment.
* Strength in design analysis.
* Good verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
* Comfortable operating machine shop equipment.
* Mechatronics experience is a plus.
Start time: April 2011 (flexible)
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Period: typically 3 months; with a possible extension.
