Bestica Inc is retained by a world leader in the
design, development and distribution of
comprehensive medical solutions to look for
creative and energetic software researchers in
the field of Human-Computer Interaction at their
Research Center in Berkeley CA. The successful
candidate will work with a team of
interdisciplinary researchers to design and
conduct HCI research projects that will lead to
innovative interaction design and high quality
user experiences with company's software systems.
Areas of research will include datamining, data
visualization, user interfaces, interactive
routines, learning systems. Work will be
collaborative with other researchers at Starkey
in Berkeley and Minnesota, as well as with
researchers at collaborating universities. Travel will be required.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
· a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field;
· a strong research background in Human-Computer Interaction;
· a working knowledge of data visualization techniques;
· experience with data mining;
· the ability to work on current computer
user interfaces across different platforms (Windows, Mac, Web, Symbian, Palm);
· core knowledge of computer programming for
Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, or Web. Strong
programming ability in several of the following
languages: C#, C++, Java/Ajax, Visual Basic .NET, Flash, HTML / JavaScript/CSS;
· the ability to work with researchers in other disciplines;
· An understanding of the fundamentals of
computer graphics and graphic design tools;
· A mathematics capability;
· Interest in the application of cognitive
psychology to the design of user experiences;
· Able to reduce theoretical concepts to working prototypes;
· good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
· contribute to the development of an HCI
research and development strategy;
· develop relationships and collaborate with
leading university HCI researchers;
· develop and research ideas for the
usability improvement of Starkey software systems;
· work with research group members to
design, execute and analyze experimental studies;
· develop novel interaction software for research purposes;
· program software according to best practices;
· write project plans and final reports;
· maintain up-to-date knowledge of HCI
research, including conference attendance;
· present research at conferences and
publish results in reputable journals;
· seek out and develop partnerships with
other companies in the area of interaction design.

Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with the
experience of the candidate and includes a 401K
plan and health care benefits. Continuing education is supported.
