JOB DESCRIPTION: Project Manager, Green Chemistry


McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) in Charlottesville, VA, is
seeking candidates to fill the position of Project Manager, Green Chemistry.
MBDC is a global sustainability consulting and product certification firm
founded in 1995 by world-renowned architect William McDonough and chemist
Dr. Michael Braungart. MBDC helps companies integrate the Cradle to Cradle®
framework into products, processes and organizations to eliminate the
concept of waste through innovative design and maximize positive
environmental, social and economic value.


Education: Bachelor¹s degree in relevant field (e.g., Environmental or Green
Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental or Chemical engineering,
Environmental Science, Toxicology, Biology, Environmental Planning,
Industrial Design).


Skills:

-Ability to manage client relationships and interact with manufacturing
suppliers
-Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and organize data.
-Ability to learn and apply MBDC¹s methodology for assessment the impact of
materials and chemicals on human and environmental health
-Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into concise summaries and to
be able to explain technical information in lay terms to non-technical
audiences
-Ability to comprehend scientific literature and extract relevant data from
sources and effectively use the internet and informational databases for
diverse research assignments
-Familiarity with Cradle to Cradle, Green Chemistry principles, Design for
Environment, Industrial Ecology and Life Cycle Analysis.
-Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and oral)
-Ability to work independently and take initiative
-Passion for sustainability and advocating for safe and healthy products
-Proficiency with databases, and MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Job Duties:

Primary role is to manage client accounts for MBDC¹s consulting services,
particularly for the Cradle to Cradle Certified(CM) program. Specific duties
may include:
-Organize project deliverables and helping maintain agreed tasks and
timelines.

-Interact with clients and their supply chain partners to collect and enter
material information into MBDC¹s information management system.

-Manage confidential information and securing non-disclosure agreements with
clients and suppliers.

-Apply MBDC¹s methodology for assessing chemicals and materials for human
and environmental health.

-Maintain and contribute to database of chemical and material assessments.

-Research using internet and journals and convey collected information in
research briefs. Topics may include: innovative materials and chemistries,
recycling technologies, corporate social responsibility and design for
environment practices, etc.

-Research and keep current on all chemical registries, databases and other
sources of chemical and toxicological information that may be used to
evaluate chemicals and maintain an information infrastructure that helps to
streamline MBDC¹s assessment process.

-Prepare proposals and contracts for current and new clients as needed.

-Educate clients, suppliers and general public about the goal of our work
and processes used.
-Provide program and administrative support as needed.

Compensation:
Salary: $35,000 - $45,000 annually depending on experience

Pre-tax retirement savings plan.
