Powertrain Engineering Internship / Co-Op / part time internship

Tesla's goal is to produce a full range of
electric cars, from sports cars to mass-market
vehicles – relentlessly driving down the cost of
electric vehicles. It is currently the only U.S.
automaker that builds and sells highway-capable
EVs in serial production. Palo Alto,
California-based Tesla designs and manufactures
EVs and EV powertrain components. Tesla has
delivered more than 1,600 Roadsters to customers
in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific
Region. Model S, the first premium sedan to be
built from the ground up as an electric vehicle,
goes on the market in mid-2012.

You’ll learn Tesla’s progressive engineering
philosophy, and have the opportunity work
alongside the world’s top engineers on the most
exciting automotive programs in existence today.

The Tesla Motors battery team has an immediate
opening for a Mechanical Engineer/ Material
Science Engineer Undergraduate/ Graduate
candidate intern. We are looking for a hard
working self starter who can help us develop
designs for next generation battery packs. The
intern will work closely with others on a small
team and will be given a high level of
involvement and responsibility. The internship will last 3 to 9 months.


BATTERY ENGINEERING
design, engineer, and build battery packs, and battery pack components

· Hands-on assembly of prototype
hardware, test equipment, or manufacturing equipment.

· Mechanical wrenching, basic
fabrication, machining, wiring, general electronics, debugging, parts chasing.

· Execute mechanical tests, collect data
via metrology/DAQ, document findings, and present
results in formal reports (MS Office).

· Model components and assemblies in 3D
CAD and create 2D prints (SolidWorks, CATIA V5).

· Past experience with testing (Design
and build test fixtures, perform testing, analyze test data) a plus

· Expertise in material science, particularly plastics a plus

· You must be resourceful, diligent,
organized, fastidious, and self managed.
