Mechanical Engineer – Design & Sustaining

POSITION SUMMARY:
Designing, developing, commercializing and
sustaining new lighting systems and
fixtures. You will see your contributions in production in months.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. New Product Development & Sustaining Projects:
· Take complete responsibility for
projects from definition (interfacing with
marketing and sales) through to production
(coordinating with suppliers and our factory personnel)
* Design and document sheet metal, plastic,
and aluminum components and assemblies for high
volume / high quality (low defect) / cost sensitive products
* Develop systems-based solutions to
problems, integrating mechanical and electrical
components (power supplies, wiring harnesses, components, etc.)
2. Project Management:
· Work effectively on simultaneous critical projects
· Communicate schedule and project
progress to the Director of Engineering
· Manage vendors and consultants as
resources in new product development and sustaining projects
3. Manufacturing processes:
· Work closely with manufacturing and
quality to ensure manufacturability
· Develop and communicate work and assembly instructions effectively
· Participate in developing and refining lean processes
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering (product
design focused program a plus) or BS Industrial
Design with strong mechanical design background; MS a plus.
Experience: 5+ years related experience
Specific Skills: To succeed in this role you must have:
* Excellent communication skills Experience
designing and executing from concept through
production for high volume cost sensitive products
* The ability to multitask and think
creatively with minimal direction in a dynamic environment.
* Experience working out in the shop
assembling your own prototypes (strong desire to
use power and metal working tools – drill press,
handbrakes, shears, etc) A goal oriented
personality with the ability to execute project work to closure
* Have experience with Solid Works (required); Pro/E experience desired
* Experience taking products successfully through UL & FCC a plus

* Operate independently with a high degree of
freedom Learn (or refine your knowledge) in a
wide range of processes - Stamping, Forming, Die
Casting, Injection Molding, Painting Have
“hands-on” experience - meet with a wide variety
of vendor/supplier partners in person and assemble and validate prototypes
* Have a wide variety of projects - specify
and evaluate power supplies, design wiring
harnesses, test components parts, interact and
contribute in research projects, develop and execute custom projects.
