Although it doesn't sound like it from the ad, LMU is actually quite
flexible about its requirements as long as the right person comes
along. So if there's someone who would be a good fit, but has some special
circumstances (such as still a ways off from actually finishing that PhD),
I would encourage them to apply.

Mechanical Design, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Loyola Marymount University Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks
applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate
Professor level. The candidate must have a strong background in machine
design, with significant industrial experience and a strong interest in
teaching and scholarship in design. A Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering is
required.
The candidate will be expected to develop an outstanding practical and
modern mechanical design undergraduate and graduate curriculum. At the
undergraduate level, the person will: (a) teach design of parts and
machines, and related solid mechanics courses, (b) supervise
inter-collegiate student competitions, and (c) develop an excellent capstone
course integrating mechanical design with other undergraduate courses and
industrial projects. At the graduate level, the person will teach advanced
machine design, and modern design philosophy and methodology.
The department offers both BSME and MSME degrees and several certificate
programs. The department has six full-time faculty and about 100
undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates must submit a) a letter of
application with proposed teaching/research interests, b) curriculum vita,
c) a detailed portfolio of designs describing the level of complexity and
the level of participation (personal design, team member, supervisor), and
d) four references (with e-mail and phone numbers). Review of applications
will begin January 15, 2007 and will continue until the position is filled.
