POSITION DESCRIPTION
* Work with our partners to develop next-generation Building-Integrated
solar modules products that will reduce installation costs, improve
aesthetics, and
provide long-life, high reliability energy production.
* Develop and test concepts for new building-integrated solar products.
* Work with systems integrators, partners, and roofing contractors to
obtain design
feedback and identify opportunities to minimize installation labor
through design
innovation.
* Develop novel methods for interconnection, mounting, and configuration of
field-configurable PV modules and strings.
* Develop complete systems designs that minimize total installed cost
and long-term
cost per kWh.
* Develop highly reliable, long-life products that require minimal
maintenance &
produce minimal performance degradation over their lifetimes.
* Work with materials & process engineering personnel to identify and
select materials
that provide an optimum combination of reliability, cost, product
performance and
manufacturability.
* Coordinate with Power Electronics group to seamlessly incorporate power
conversion into the PV system designs.
* Coordinate efforts with materials suppliers, process and materials
engineering
personnel, manufacturing and equipment engineering, to bring new
products into
production.
* Plan and coordinate testing and failure analysis of PV module designs
through
environmental, thermal, mechanical and electrical durability testing.
* Understand electrical code and safety requirements for PV systems and
incorporate
into safe and code-compliant electrical and interconnection designs.
* Ensure that all product and component tests are accurately and
sufficiently
documented in a complete and presentable
REQUIREMENTS
* BS in or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design.
* 5+ years’ experience with design of innovative, high volume products
such as
consumer products, automotive or building products.
* Preference will be given to candidates with a background in a
structured, fast-paced
product design environment.
* Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:
o Electrical connector design, particularly with water-tight or
weather-resistant
connectors.
o Experience with outdoor weathering requirements and weatherproofing.
o Experience electronics and electronics packaging.
FOR ALL POSITIONS
* Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to perform in
a fast paced,
multi-disciplinary, entrepreneurial environment.
* Experience with high-volume production operations is strongly preferred.
* Solid organizational, planning and reporting skills are
essential. Ability to organize
and execute projects with minimal instructions.
* High productivity and effective time management skills are required;
the ability to
execute and produce results in a compressed time frame.
