R&D Project Manager, Ceterix Orthopaedics (Menlo Park, CA)

Ceterix Orthopaedics is an exciting medical
device start-up focused on developing new
surgical tools for arthroscopic procedures. The
Ceterix technology enables surgeons to place
stitches in very tight joint compartments, while
protecting sensitive surrounding structures such
as nerves, arteries and cartilage. This
technology has applications in numerous
arthroscopic procedures in knees, hips and
shoulders and provides therapy for patients who
could not have been treated previously. We are
looking for a driven, hands-on project manager
to help us design great new surgical instruments.

Specific responsibilities include:
· Design and develop new products as well
as product changes and enhancements.
· Plan, schedule, and complete projects
in an aggressive manner. Regularly use critical
path analysis to identify opportunities to
accelerate timelines and take appropriate risks
with a clear assessment of possible downsides.
· Hire, train, and manage assigned
engineers, technicians and/ or machinists.
· Contribute to the intellectual property
position of the company via invention disclosures and patent applications.
· Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies.
· Regularly communicate project status,
timelines and risk factors to senior management.
· Collaborate with marketing and
physician advisors to develop a clear set of user
needs and requirements. Provide engineering and
technical support during product introductions.
· Procure and oversee outside vendors and consultants as required.
· Perform product development activities
per design control procedures. Provide support in
resolving product complaints and/or safety issues.
· Provide departmental coordination for
pilot production of new products.
· Prepare product specifications, test
protocols and reports. Review and edit documentation created by direct reports.
· Actively work to promote team building
and morale within the department.
· Maintain a professional and credible
image with key physicians, consultants, vendors and co-workers.

Desired skills and experience:
· BSME with seven years of experience or equivalent
· Two years management experience
· Willingness to drive aggressive
schedules in a fast paced start-up environment
· Ability to communicate design ideas
through sketches as well as both rough and refined prototypes
· Proficiency using SolidWorks
