After over ten years working with a design
consultancy, I joined this small group at Apple,
and I love it. It is a really strong and emerging
group of people from a wide variety of industries
-- from sporting goods to aerospace -- working
closely with Apple's industrial design and other
hardware teams on some of the world's best products.

Here's the official job description:

PD Engineer - Soft Goods

Apple is looking for a highly-motivated product
design engineer to join the Softgoods Product
Design group. You will be part of a
cross-functional design team responsible for
conceiving, designing and producing innovative
new products. You will work closely with many
different groups, including Industrial Design,
Hardware Engineering, Operations, Packaging,
Safety, Thermal, EMC, and Software. You will be
part of a team that takes products from concept
to mass production. This role will require travel to our global supply base.

This position is located in Cupertino, CA (Silicon Valley).

Requirements

•     BS in Mechanical Engineering required, MS Preferred.

•Â    Strong 3D and 2D CAD skills (NX, Solidworks or ProE/Creo preferred)

•Â Â Â Â Experience in production part design
utilizing a variety of engineering materials (metals, sheet metal, plastics)

•    Strong engineering fundamentals (beam
bending, free body diagrams, GD&T, etc...)

•Â Â Â Â Strong presentation skills (Keynote or Powerpoint)

•Â Â Â Â Experience using spreadsheets to analyze engineering data

•Â Â Â Â Organized self starterÂ

Â

Preferred ExperienceÂ

•Â Â Â Â Knowledge of soft goods materials (synthetics, leather, adhesives)

•Â Â Â Â Knowledge of softgoods assembly process
(cut and stitch and cut and stick

•Â Â Â Â Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer

•Â Â Â Â High volume mass production experience
