Senior Robotics Software System Architect

We are a stealth mode robotics startup with
ex-Apple founders. As the first employee, you
will be working on an advanced manufacturing
robot that will disrupt the way consumer
electronics, medical devices, and other everyday
products are made, and define the factories of
the future. We are looking for a senior-level
robotics software architect to design and
implement the software infrastructure from the
microprocessor to the robotics control algorithms.

Responsibilities:

- be the software system architect for our robots
— decide on the hardware and opperating systemÂ

- design and implement the software
infrastructure from the ground up: microprocessor
firmware all of the way up to the algorithms that
run the robot (take sensor input and yield
mechanical and data outputs, calibration, etc)

- integrate code seamlessly with mechanical and
electrical components, and can be a holistic debugger

- leverage open source code/development (ROS,
etc), but knows when and where to break off and develop from the ground up

- write simulation and development environment
tools to support development off-robot

- configuring, testing, and supporting robots during pilot and factory runs

Skills:

- gets stuff done, has entrepreneurial spirit, can be scrappy

- diagnostic and debugging magician

- finds challenges invigorating and knows how to
become an expert in something new in a few days

- dangerous 3D math skills

- experience using and programming mechanized
automation components such as motors, displays, sensors, etc.

- native level fluency in a C-based programming language

- appetite for sharing technical knowledge with
other engineers and the excellent communication skills to do it

- good at explaining, good at thinking out loud,
difficult to frustrate, and fun to work with

Education/Experience:

- 5+ years in a robotics or mechatronics
implementation role (selecting processors,
writing assembly code, sensor fusion, motion
planing, controls, algorithm development, etc.)

- Proven track-record of “ground-up” software implementation

- Strong educational background in both computer
science and mechanical engineering (mechatronics,
robotics, or controls), likely with Masters/PhD
