Summer of 2016 ME/EE Adventure as VTS Volunteer Manufacturing Lead

This summer VTS needs a volunteer to assemble 25
Looma II ~ an interactive A/V system for
learning, inspiration, and new dynamics in
classrooms worldwide. See the User Interface at
<http://looma.website/>http://looma.website/

Looma II is a small ~ 85W device that projects a
big image onto a nearby wall. It uses a wireless
wand for navigation, comes pre-loaded with
government textbooks for the country of use, a
rich set of multimedia supplements, and a web
browser. The simple user interface allows
teachers and students who are unaccustomed to
computers to navigate through screens quickly and intuitively.

Field trials and smaller components make it
possible now for us to assemble a compact
prototype. We will deliver the Looma II systems
to a distribution partner (possibly in Nepal, Kenya, Bangladesh, or C.A.).

Guided by Skip Stritter, development is done by
an all-volunteer, distributed team of software,
mechanical and electronics engineers and student
teams at Dartmouth, Colorado School of Mines,
Santa Clara University, Stanford and UC San Diego.

Summer (June~August) Tasks in Menlo Park:
• become current wwith the Looma project and technology
• review/revisse assembly and enclosure tto make Looma II manufacturable
• order and refine parts
• coordinate assemmbly and testing

Experience:
• experience with ddesigning and manufacturing electronics enclosures
•¢ have built commercial microprocessor-based electronics products
• be familiar with electronics CAD tools
