Purpose of the Position:

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the ideation,
design and execution of advanced prototypes and products within
Sennheiser Strategic Innovation. Responsibilities include 3D CAD
design, conceptual drafting and ideation, distillation of rapid
prototyping, oversight of prototype production, design of
experiments, prototype validation and design transfer to development
and manufacturing teams. The Mechanical Design Engineer owns
mechanical and human aspects of the prototype design process within a
cross-functional Strategic Innovation team, carrying new product
concepts from ideation to development and driving future-facing
technological and user-centered innovation within Sennheiser.

Key Dimensions:

- Responsible for all mechanical design and prototyping within
Sennheiser Strategic Innovation
- Manages vendor relationships and project budgets for prototype manufacturing

Responsibilities:
- Ideate and execute innovative design concepts within Strategic
Innovation project teams
- Utilize 3D CAD tools to design mechanical systems and components
for rapid prototyping and low-volume manufacturing
- Draft concept sketches for rapid ideation and internal communication
- Translate user-generated insights and UX research into innovative
design concepts
- Translate technological innovations into compelling user experiences
- Deploy rapid prototyping workflows for quick iteration cycles and
iterative learning
- Utilize design of experiments and failure analysis to drive
improvements across engineering domains
- Manage low-volume contract manufacturing, vendors and project budgets
- Define and document PCB footprints and mechanical interfaces for
electrical systems
- Oversee design transfer to product development and manufacturing teams
- Utilize FEM tools to analyse performance factors and drive design improvement
- Monitor, research and evaluate innovations in manufacturing and
sensor technologies
- Constantly improve design practices and human-centered design methodologies
Desired Skills and Experience:

- BS in Mechanical Engineering, BA in Industrial Design or equivalent
experience
- 4+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in consumer
electronics or professional audio
- Proficient in 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks or CATIA
- Demonstrates excellence in creating and communicating compelling
aesthetic forms and user experiences
- Demonstrates experience in user-centered design and iterative rapid
prototyping
- Experience in design of experiments, failure analysis and FEM preferred
