Job Title: Simulation Engineer Intern

Department: Vision APD

Reports to: Principal Image Sensors Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA / flexibility to work remote if required


Company Description:
Joining Intuitive Surgical, Inc. means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.


Eligibility:
Must be concurrently enrolled and returning to an academic program in the fall in an accredited degree-seeking program.

Primary Function of Position:
Vision System Simulation: Enable Intuitive to expand our Vision System Simulation capabilities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. System Simulation to high resolution scene, 3D scene, stereo output, video output, and modeling display.
  2. System Simulation to include geometric distortion modeling using a GPU.
  3. Develop infrastructure that integrates validation against measurements into regression tests for both optics as well as sensors


Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  * Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor's or Master's level
  * Desired Major(s): Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  * High level programming language (C, C++, Python)
  * System Simulation coursework (ISET for example)
  * Coursework in Optics, semi-conductors or physics is a plus



Learning Outcomes:

  * Learn to develop specific simulation extensions and integrate them into a complex simulation system.
  * Ability to develop associated regression tests and validate test results against lab measurements.
  * Exposure to state-of-the-art image sensor characterization methods and equipment.



Commitment: Must be available to work full-time hours, M-F for 10-12 weeks beginning Summer of 2021.
