About the Role

We’re seeking an exceptional, well-rounded automation engineer that is keen to use their skills to improve the global food system. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver and a dependable decision maker that can work and deliver results as part of a dynamic team.



What you’ll do

· Create robotic automation technologies from concept design to R+D stage prototyping, and implementation on FYTO’s growing operations in the Petaluma area

· Design, build, and test electro-mechanical solutions for a variety of growing, harvesting, and processing challenges

· Develop sensor systems, including hardware selection, data acquisition, and data analysis


Your required qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering or similar

· 3+ years of relevant professional experience

· Advanced computer skills, including CAD, numerical modeling, programming, and MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, and Word)

· Demonstrated ability to develop hardware from notebook to functional prototypes

· Experience working with PLCs and/or microcontrollers to automate processes

· Ability to work with minimal supervision in remote locations as well as with a team

· Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

· Quick learner who is flexible, motivated, and able to thrive in a startup environment

Other preferred qualifications

· Master’s degree in engineering discipline, physical sciences, or computer science

· Experience in motion control applications and/or robotics

· Experience with computer-vision enabled systems

· Experience working in a start-up environment



Physical activity requirements

· Walk across a variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces

· Climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and install equipment

· Stand for extended time periods

· Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

· Work in conditions with varying humidity, sunlight and temperatures (32°– 95° depending on the season)
