At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in wearable system design and hands-on prototyping who can work with a team of researchers to design, integrate, and characterize prototype wearable bioinstrumentation systems. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
MECHANICAL ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES
Rapid prototyping of mechanical components and systems, including CAD design, fabrication, assembly, and integration into wearable systems or test environments
Establish hardware subsystem testing and validation plans, building test fixtures and running experiments as needed
Working with neuroscientists, optical scientists, comfort researchers, and machine learning researchers to help design, setup, and run system level experiments and human studies related to sensor systems
Working closely with researchers to understand their goals and elicit system architecture requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3+ years of industry experience working on mechanical designs and prototyping in collaborative, cross functional environments
Experience in (CAD/solid modeling in NX or SolidWorks) with experience designing for human factors
Experience across manufacturing and prototyping techniques (machining, 3D printing, elastomer molding, textiles, etc.)
Experience with hardware integration and testing
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of product design/prototyping and R&D experience, including subsystem ownership
Experience with wearables, soft goods, flexible systems, elastomers, or textiles
Experience in test engineering, including: instrumentation, data acquisition systems, analysis, statistics, and experimental design
Experience in electronics packaging, PCBA mechanical design, electro-mechanical integration & interconnects
