Bill of Materials

As described in the introduction, the game consists of two main components: the theater and handpump. The material used to construct each (and its constituent parts) is itemized below.

Theater

Housing

8 feet of 1x2 inch wood strapping shaped into a box forms the outer frame
3 1x2 feet sheets of wood paneling are used for each of the 3 floor levels
Wooden filigree and proscenium arabesque decorations are glued to the face
1.5 yards of decorative cloth wraps around the sides and rear to permit access

Puppets

3 feet of 3/4 inch wood dowels are cut to about 1 inch sizes as body parts
4 1/8x1/2 inch springs are used to connect puppet heads and the villain's arm
4 1 inch sections of monofilament are used to connect player arms and torsos
1 Tiny Toy motor from a micro motorcycle toy to actuate the pumping action
Modeling glue and assorted waqtercolor paint to connect and color the puppets

Handcar

A scrap of 2x3 inch plywood as the base with 2 wooden model wheels alongside
1 bamboo skewer supports the cart from the motor located on the lower level
1 SPDL door lock motor moves the car up/down corresponding to player jumps

Villain train engine

Constructed from a purchased solid wood model kit and painted to match scenery
2 1 foot bamboo skewers to support the engine from the servo on the lower level
1 HiTec HS-311 RC servo positions wood dowel to move engine left-right on stage

Background scroll

1 DC motor from a Pixima i1500 inkjet printer plus the belt drive and gears
2 1/4 inch wooden dowels for inner (slower) axel pegged at top with metal pins
2 toilet paper rolls for outer (faster) axel strengthened with wooden inserts
A large sheet of heavy-duty art paper on which a themed background is drawn
A sheet of clear contact paper to provide scroll stiffness and strength
Many bamboo skewers cut and glued to the scroll for train track sections

Prize (SWAG) dispenser

A photo-detector senses when a cracker is inserted (after a penny) to start the game
At win, a transverse-mounted SPDL door-lock motor depresses Cheez Whiz nozzle

Game chime

1 SPDL eccentric-weight motor vibrates inside of an empty snapple bottle
The motor connects back to the proto-boards by 1 foot of twisted-pair wire

Airplane

A purchased balsa wood model kit is used as decoration atop the housing

Handpump

Frame and pump handle

8 lengths of 2x4 board are screwed together to form an inverted “V” frame
Various lengths of 1 inch galvanized steel pipe form a 4 feet long handle
1 inch steel washers and end-caps help retain the handle to the frame axis
2 SPDL eccentric-weight motors fit in the handle ends to vibrate on collision
1 SPDL potentiometer attaches to the axis by 1/4x1 inch flexible PVC tube
15 feet of 8-strand MOLEX cable runs from the frame back to proto-boards

Floor and jump sensors

2 3/4 inch x 2x2 feet squares of framing plywood are used for player foot pads
1 multi-sensor Dance Dance Revolution TV pad cut down to 1 sensor each pad
2 burlap zippered cases are used to hold pad sensors and are stapled to the floor
Assorted screws, nails, staples and tape fasten all of these components together
