Intuitive Surgical Research Intern

Do you want to work on a medical instrument project that potentially
improves the lives of millions?

Intuitive Surgical has an immediate opening for internship in the
area of mechanical engineering and medical robotics. We are seeking
a talented individual to participate cutting edge research and
development in advanced medical instrument, in particular he/she will
involve in mechanical characterization of advanced medical
instruments for design optimization and quality control. Expected
contributions include design and conduct experiments, system
characterization, mechanical modeling, and implementation of software
modules for experimentation.

Requirements:
* A passion for working with a high energy team to develop
technologies aimed at improving the lives of millions of people.
* A Bachelors' Degree in mechanical engineering, or commensurate
experience; Master's degree a plus. Other exceptional candidates will
also be considered.
* Solid knowledge and hands-on experience in mechanical design,
modeling, and characterization. Experience with robotic medical
device(s) and/or steerable catheters a plus
* Knowledge of sensors and robotic actuators
* Proficiency in SolidWorks, with familiarity in ProE and Matlab a plus
* Experience with applied mechanical analysis such as thermal and FEA a plus
* Ability to perform fast prototyping and testing iterations and thinking

Start time: Any time starting from Feb, 2012 to Sept, 2012; both
full-time and part-time are considered.
Period: typically 3 months of full time; extension will be considered.
