Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (New York, NY)

Function Engineering (www.function.com) is a mechanical engineering and
design firm specializing in new product development. We help some of the
world's most innovative companies differentiate their products through
mechanical design. Our engineering process emphasizes a thorough,
analytical approach to problem solving coupled with design refinement
through rapid prototype development. We strive to develop elegant, simple,
and complete mechanical solutions by applying engineering principles backed
by the best available tools.

Function is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, and also has offices in
San Francisco, Atlanta, Taipei, New Orleans, and soon, New York City. Our
New York office will use the latest web-based tools to collaborate in real
time on projects based in other offices, but will also focus on developing
local clients.

We are looking to expand our existing team in New York with someone who can:

* Create thoughtful, complete solutions to mechanical design problems
* Manage projects, teams, and vendors, both domestic and overseas
* Apply a variety of both well-known and non-obvious mechanisms to solve
design problems
* Build and maintain relationships with clients, new and old
* Thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes frenetic environment
* Design parts in all major materials and for all major manufacturing processes
* Fluently manage databases and model parts with the latest releases of
Pro/Engineer and SolidWorks
* Express ideas clearly through sketches and documentation
* Analyze forces and stresses in mechanical systems, by hand and with FEA
* Assemble prototypes, and quickly devise and fabricate solutions to bugs
* Create automated and manual assembly and test fixtures
* Develop test protocols to verify the soundness of mechanical designs
* Generate production drawings for parts and assemblies

This likely translates to at least five years of relevant design
experience, and a BSME/MSME or equivalent degree. Familiarity with the New
York design community would be a plus.

If interested, email Paul Koh (paul@function.com) PDFs and/or links to your
resume, cover letter, and examples of work.
