Principal Mechanical Engineer
Cool Earth Solar is seeking an exceptionally talented mechanical
engineer or product designer with project management experience to
take a lead role in the design of concentrated solar power
systems. This position is for Principal Engineer, Cool Earth's
highest technical staff level. Responsibilities include perfecting
mechanical subsystems, project management, leadership of focused
teams, oversight of prototype development, and design for large scale
manufacturing.
Applicants should have repeated experience bringing mechanical and
electromechanical products to market. Specific areas of interest
are design for high volume manufacturing, cost optimization, design
for extended life in harsh environments and design for serviceability.
Applicants must be self motivated and be able to bring products to
market in a dynamic unstructured startup environment and plan
effectively within the uncertainties of novel technology development.
Skills should include practiced and rigorous logical decision making,
clear efficient communication in meetings and written documents,
ability to quickly highlight the essence of both technical and logic
problems, familiarity with design cycle risk management, proficiency
in SolidWorks and other engineering software, in-depth knowledge of
manufacturing processes and comfort with hands-on prototype
fabrication. Interpersonal skills are of particular importance. A
successful candidate will be able to extract value from differing
opinions and make effective compromises between theory, business and
practical concerns. Applicants should also be comfortable
documenting their ideas and presenting in a rigorous peer design
review environment.
The applicant should have a multi-disciplinary mindset and be able to
cross pollinate between the disciplines of electronics, engineering,
physics, manufacturing, human factors and real-world
considerations. This should include the desire for hands-on building
and testing and learning of new disciplines, tools and software. The
best candidate will be passionate about making global scale renewable
energy a reality and have the skills, tenacity, and mental toughness
to pull it off.
