Summary
Responsible for leading an effort to efficiently
manufacture quality optical components for
solar concentration at high volume and low cost.
Plan for integration into a larger module
structure. Develop manufacturing tools and
processes. Project expected performance. Specify
critical design parameters and measure
manufacturing outcomes. Participate in design-formanufacturability
of new products. Must be able to think creatively about manufacturing
problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the
following. Other duties may be assigned.
Evaluate feasibility of manufacturing processes
Develop tooling and processes for parts at
prototype and volume production levels
Participate in new product development
Acquire and analyze performance data, watch for failure trends, and give
recommendations to help with possible design improvements
Participate in Vendor/Subcontractor relations
Ensure technical procedures and documentation are complete
Minimum Education and Experience
A Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and
5+ years experience. Experience with
acrylic injection molding is a must.
Preferred experience
1+ years experience in practical solar-related job
Practical experience with a variety of high
volume low cost manufacturing processes
for optical quality components
Background in heat transfer and or thermodynamics
Installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting
various types of sensors and metering
equipment
Qualifications
General knowledge of machinery and electronics
CAD skills including proficiency in GD&T (able
to read a drawing and specify a part)
Proficiency with hand, power and machine tools
Superb technical communication skills

based in Berkeley, CA. Over the last three
years, Banyan has developed a new set of optics
to concentrate sunlight. Our optics platform
can achieve concentrations of 2-500x delivering
high module performance, reliability, and
manufacturability. Our first product is a low
concentration module that aims to significantly
reduce the costs and capital investments of solar
module manufacturing. Our long term goal is
to make solar competitive with conventional
sources of energy. The core team has backgrounds
in technology and business from UC Berkeley,
