  Position Summary
  Provides technical support to the School of Engineering teaching
and research programs; designs, fabricates and repairs specialized
equipments and instruments; assembles, tests and maintains equipment
set-ups in various engineering instructional laboratories; plans and
executes repairs and improvements for existing facilities and
equipment; prepare test samples and operate Materials Test Equipment
in Materials Laboratory; coordinate various safety related activities
in the School of Engineering.

  Minimum Qualifications
  Education: Associate degree in scientific or engineering discipline.

Work Experience: equivalent to three years of progressively
responsible journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance,
repair and operation of scientific or technical equipment in the
specialty area to which assigned, including one year experience in a
technical position involving combination of mechanical and electrical tasks.

Knowledge: comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, tools
and equipment used in the construction, installation, maintenance,
repair and operation of equipment in the area of specialization;
thorough knowledge of equipment design theory; knowledge of drafting
techniques: thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance,
troubleshooting and overhaul.

Specialized Knowledge: extensive knowledge of mechanical and
electrical systems (i.e. engines, motors, wiring, piping and
mechanical testing equipment).

Specialized Skills: effective verbal/written and
interpersonal/communication skills; knowledge/use of MS Office Suite
and Windows OS.

Abilities: apply previous experience and knowledge to the design of
new applications; plan, organize, and coordinate the work of
technical projects; review and prepare specifications for technical
equipment; design, fabricate, and assemble devices; coordinate
equipment repair performed by other specialists; analyze equipment
problems and determine what repairs are needed; install, replace,
repair and maintain a wide variety of equipment for the area of job
assignment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships;
read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position;
make arithmetic computations where required.

  Preferred Qualifications
  Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or
Applied Physical Science Field; three years experience working in an
academic environment; one year experience working with
instrumentation and data collection; three years experience with
machine shop and fabrication equipment (drill, mill, lathe, saws,
grinders, MIG, TIG, break, shear and punch); one year experience
overseeing facilities and/or laboratories; one year experience with
electric motors, hydraulic and pneumatics; knowledge of MathLab and
LabView; knowledge of Linux and Macintosh computer systems; CPR/First
Aid certification desired; safety certification (current or prior) desired.

  License/Certification Required
  Possess a valid California Driver License to pick-up materials from
off-campus vendors, and mail runs for parts/components for necessary
repairs of engineering equipment; comply with the Defensive Driver
Training requirements.

  Environmental, Phys, Spec
  Some work on weekends and holidays required. The work week will be
adjusted accordingly (1-2 days a semester). Must be able to move
boxes of equipment or supplies, weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g. copier
paper boxes, mail deliveries, and waste disposal).

  CSUEU Position
  Eligible and qualified on-campus applicants, currently in
