ME/EE adventure : USA/Nepal/2014 : Volunteer Manufacturing Lead

We need a volunteer to organize manufacturing for
Looma ~ an interactive A/V system for knowledge,
inspiration, and new dynamics in classrooms worldwide.

Looma is a small ~ 85W device that projects a big
image onto a nearby wall. It uses a wireless wand
for navigation, comes pre-loaded with government
textbooks for the country of use, a rich set of
multimedia supplements, and a web browser.

A simple user interface allows teachers and
students who are unaccustomed to computers to
navigate through screens quickly and intuitively.

Our development is done by an all-volunteer,
distributed team of experienced software
development engineers and by student teams at
partnering universities. Engineering teams at
Colorado School of Mines will complete their
redesign of Looma hardware in April. Other teams
are exploring alternate wand designs.

We have selected a manufacturer/distributor in
Nepal, Three60, who hope to curate content and
bring 250 Looma to the field this year and 1000 next year.

As soon as Looma systems are available in Nepal,
we will engage educators and distributors in additional countries.

Tasks:
• become current with the Looma project and technology
• coordinate testing and design needed to make Looma manufacturable
• coordinate manufacturing with Three60

Experience:
• have built commercial microprocessor-based electronics products
• familiar with electronics CAD tools
• have experience dealing with manufacturers, especially overseas
