Multi-modal Interaction Research Engineer (Job Number: P13T02)Â

The Honda Research Institute USA, Inc. in
Mountain View, California, has an opportunity for
candidates wishing to participate in the exciting
area of multi-modal interaction for driver
behavior understanding and human-machine interfaces.Â

Successful candidates will be expected to engage
in research and prototyping of novel,
next-generation automotive interfaces using
multiple modalities working together, like speech
and visual displays. You will be working with a
team of diverse backgrounds, and expect to
participate in all aspects of the creative
process, from concept ideas to execution and evaluation of those concepts.Â

The candidate will be responsible for using
information from various sensor signal streams
(e.g., cameras, depth sensors, microphones, CAN
bus data) and apply data fusion and inference
methods to understand driver behavior and intent
in order to create new interactive experiences
for ?driver and passengers. As a member of the
group we encourage the candidates to contribute
new research ideas and to participate in
presentations and scientific publications.Â

Qualifications:
RequiredÂ
* An M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalentÂ
* Strong background in computer vision, signal
processing, data fusion, probabilistic inference, machine learningÂ
* Excellent skills in C/C++, Linux
* Versatility with a variety of relevant APIs such as OpenCV, OpenNI, OpenGL

DesirableÂ
* Experience designing, implementing and evaluating interactive systemsÂ
* Experience in implementing multimodal systems
using a combination of sensors, embedded systems,
perception algorithms, and natural user interfacesÂ
* Experience with human-computer interaction design and experimentationÂ
* T-shaped people with strong technical skills and diverse interestsÂ

Duration:Â
* Limited 3-year contract position with the
possibility of further extensions at the company discretionÂ
