Who We Are
Every year 67 million tons of plastic is thrown away and never recycled. It’s landfilled, it’s incinerated and it pollutes our oceans. Why?

There are many reasons, but it all really boils down to one thing: The business model for recycling is broken. Everyone agrees that there’s a problem, but no one can agree on how to pay for the fix.

At Olyns, we’re creating a new paradigm for recycling by combining the act of recycling with the requirements of sustainability marketing. By leveraging what the Boston Consulting Group recently called the $100B opportunity in retail media, we’re providing value for all stakeholders:

  * Consumers get the convenience, incentives and paths to action that they want.
  * Brands get a media channel to align their sustainability message with the action of recycling at a valuable point of sale.
  * Retailers get increased customer visits and spend, and
  * Our planet gets a break from the tons of plastic that would otherwise pollute our environment.
We’re venture funded and looking for talented and passionate team members to help us change the face of recycling. If you’re looking for a mission rather than just a job, we want to meet you.

About The Role
As one of the very first engineers on the team, you’ll help to establish the foundation of our system, including the architecture, technology stack, processes and best practices.

What You'll Do:

  * Prototype builds of machines, subsystems, mechanisms, shop setups, demo rigs, and whatever else needs building or testing
  * Digital design and documentation of engineering solutions through CAD and other supporting documentation. Proper 2D drawings, BOMs, etc.
  * Technical evaluation of systems, partners, and tooling solutions to accelerate our development as becomes stage-appropriate
  * Setting up and maintaining a machine shop workspace that has the tools we need safely organized.
  * Establishing proper relationships with outside parties for larger equipment “hardware is a part of our DNA, but we also need to present well to the outside world.

Qualifications:

  * Hands-on experience building, breaking, and prototyping hardware systems
  * Experience in a machine shop environment using heaving equipment safely
  * Experience debugging electromechanical systems, root causing problems, and implementing solutions
  * CAD expertise enough to own a system design. Solidworks or Pro/Engineer preferred but not currently dedicated to one CAD system.
  * Interaction with external engineering resources - contractors, consultants, ODMs
  * Interaction with external vendors for custom and off-the-shelf components
  * Familiarity with other engineering documentation - BOM, ECO, PRD, ECAD, etc.
  * Basic electrical skills - wiring, soldering, multimeter measurements - “you don't’ need to operate an oscilloscope, but you also can’t be afraid of sparks”

Nice-to-haves:

  * Simulation experience in FEA, CFD, Matlab, or other digital analysis of systems
  * Manufacturing experience with domestic or foreign contract manufacturers
  * Quality expertise in documenting and supporting manufacturing RFQ, Cpk, QC/QA, yield, and other analysis
  * Field experience deploying and debugging systems in high-pressure environments in front of customers or others
