San Ramon, CA

Omron's Research Center of America (ORCA) is looking for a Robotics Researcher to join our team. At ORCA, we develop new technologies for OMRON's new and emerging products including those from the Omron Robotic & Safety business (formerly Adept Robotics). Specifically, we develop new technologies until they are ready to be transferred to Omron's product engineering teams, such as Omron Robotics & Safety business (formerly Adept Robotics).
The ideal candidate is eager to be part of a dynamic & friendly team that is passionate about developing new technology. We are specifically looking for someone who has experience developing new technologies for robotic manipulators at the intersection of robotic motion planning & perception and has a strong background in software development.

Responsibilities
- Develop & deploy algorithms at the intersection of robotic motion planning, perception, and sensing for manipulation applications.
- Participate in a team that tests algorithms on robot hardware and in simulation.
- Design & implement robotics systems & architectures for new technology development platforms.
- Ownership of development processes & tools used by the ORCA team.
- Develop and communicate research objectives internally.
- Support successful transfer of developed core technologies to product groups.
- Disseminate research via publications, workshops etc.

Preferred qualifications
- MS (with working experience) or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.
- Hands-on experience developing software related to motion planning and/or perception for robots in industry or academia.
- Strong software engineering skills preferably in C++ and Python.
- Proficiency in software lifecycle processes, and associated tool sets.
- Experience developing solutions on Linux, Windows, and at least one RTOS platform.
- Publication track record in related fields.
- Strong communication skills.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands, this is a sedentary position involving sitting most of the time. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive computer use, reading and visual inspections.
Environmental Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a general office environment and occasionally in other. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel may be required (2-5 times per year, as needed to attend conferences worldwide, and Omron business meetings in Japan)
