FINAL PROJECT OVERVIEW

Area 218 title board

Area 218 is designed to be a fun, interactive arcade game where the one or two players must take up arms and defend Earth against an alien invasion.  The theme and name are based off of supposed military installation and the classic video arcade game Area 51.  The game includes eight different targets which move side to side and are often obscured by obstructions (crates) or each other and the players must attempt to shoot the targets as they become active.  The analog difficulty dial can change the game from very easy (where scores are often larger than 30) to very difficult (where scores are well below 10).  Increasing the difficulty will increase the speed of the targets and, more importantly, will also increase the firing cooldown.  At easy difficulties, the player can fire continuously and at hard difficulties each firing period of 150ms must be followed by a cooldown of up to 500ms.  Project presentations proved that Area 218 is a blast for children and adults of all ages.
