Accelerometer
We used an accelerometer (standard SPDL issue) as a tilt sensor on the helm to control the left and right maneuvering of the boat.  We used only the x axis, and no amplifying circuitry was added to the accelerometer because the output from the accelerometer signal line ranged from about 1 V to 1.8 V.  All the signal conditioning was done using the Analog to Digital converter in the PIC.
