Speed Switch & Specials
The special feature (Turbo Boost) was triggered using a single pole single throw contact switch.  *   The line to the PIC was taken from just below the switch.  When the switch was triggered, the PIC saw a High signal; when the switch was not triggered, the PIC saw a low signal.  If the Special Button would trigger a 2 second turbo boost.

The speed switch was comprised of a hand full hall sensors hooked in parallel.  We hooked them up in parallel so that any hall sensor that triggered would cause the signal line to go high.  The signal line to the PIC was taken from just below the hall sensors.  A magnet held near the speed switches would cause at least one of them to close and create current to flow through the circuit.  This circuit was used to detect paddling speed.  The more times the switch triggered (the faster the helmsman paddled) during a period of time the faster the boat would travel.
