COIN SENSOR

An opto-interrupter is used to detect when a coin is inserted into the slot in the console top panel (see Electrical Design). In order to prevent players from only partially inserting and then retrieving a coin to begin the game, the opto-interrupter is recessed about 2 in. below the console coin slot. An inserted coin enters a narrow, angled chute designed to keep the coin rolling on its edge on a reasonably shallow slope, passes through the opto-interrupter which signals a successful coin insertion, and then falls into a cushioned box placed under the console.
